Weekly Wrap-up: Week 15 - Back to Basics

So, where were we? Ah, yes, week 15.  Almost a half year completed. A tad more really since we did summer studies. We will celebrate our 100th day next week! But what happened this week?

SAM

Waiting in the van for Cate to finish band practice is a perfect time for Sam to do copywork, grammar, reading, Mad Libs, A History of US, and this week some literature-based math. I read aloud Fun with Roman Numerals (Adler) and we played Roman Numerals War.


ASTRONOMY
Mars was our focus this week in Apologia Astronomy. Sam completed his notebooking page while I read aloud from the text, and he built models of the Sojourner rover and Olympus Mons.



GENERAL SCIENCE
Cati started Module 6: Foundations of Geology in Apologia General Science this week. She conducted an experiments on the difference between rocks and minerals, separation of sedimentation, and physical weathering.

U.S. HISTORY
I read aloud to Sam from History of Us: The First Americans Prehistory-1600 (Hakim). We covered chapters 5-9.

Sam also played U.S. Geography: Level 3 Expert on Sheppardsoftware, scoring 48 out of 50 states.

MUSIC HISTORY
Cati is studying early American music history with Easy Peasy Homeschool. Since the lessons are quick, she completes one week per day, sometimes more. This week she completed weeks 27-34.

    1. Thanks, Melissa! I decided to try something new with how I did these weekly wrap-ups, something that would be easier to copy and paste into a Google Doc so I can print it out easier for our portfolios at the end of the year. I look at these weekly wrap-ups as a way to record what we do so it'll be great for records.

  2. Lots of great learning going on. We just finished week 20! I am so excited. We do 40 weeks so we are at the half way point. We love the History of Us series.

    1. How're you, Dawn? In Maine, we are required to complete 175 days of instruction, so our number of weeks depends on meeting that requirement. Usually we're only hitting about 75 days this time of year, but we haven't taken much time off for vacation or illness. The kids have been mostly great learners this year!

    1. My daughter is especially motivated and independent this year! She gets up super early and has more of her work completed by the time Sam and I start. She likes studying when it's quiet and calm! LOL You and your family are in my thoughts!

    1. We started in the summer months! LOL We pretty much have homeschooled year around at this point, taking off about 4 weeks for "summer". It does get us closer, quicker to our completed days.
