WEATHER IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS
A mostly sunny 56 degrees. A perfect Maine fall day.
IN THE GARDEN
We had a roaring fire in the firepit yesterday, burning some downed tree limbs and pieces of board used for outside projects. Leaves are scattered everywhere, and wild plants have withered. The yard is looking more brown than green.
LOOKING AROUND THE HOUSE
It's serene. The washer is filling with water. The fridge is humming. The room is dim.

CREATING FROM THE CRAFT BASKET
My son's shell stitch afghan is finished! I'm actually not sure how many weeks it took, but any afghan is a "labor of love". (Want to create your own afghan? Here's the free pattern.) I've already started a new project, and if you're a Star Wars fan you're going to love it...
I'm sharing my crocheting creations over at Lucy Blossom Crafts (Mondays), Frontier Dreams (Tuesdays), The Philosopher's Wife (Tuesdays), Small Things (Wednesdays), Oombawka Design (Wednesdays), and Lunamon Design (Wednesdays).
THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY AND THANKFUL
Your afghan is looking nice and snuggly - perfect for cooler autumnal days and wintery evenings.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lucy! It's actually quite a heavy blanket! I was surprised when I finished it as the yarn feels light and airy. Must be the stitch!
DeleteWhat lovely colours you have used on your afghan. Funny how cats always find the cosiest places.
ReplyDeleteThey do, don't they? She keeps coming around when I am crocheting to lie on whatever I'm doing (if it's big enough). It makes crocheting a bit difficult, but it's hard to disturb her when she's so comfy.
DeleteLove your afghan. Total Star Wars fan here, and I also LOOOOVE me some Kristin Hannah! let me know how the book is! Have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteI'm about half way through the book and it's great. Have you read it? I think it's new...I can only borrow it from the library for 2 weeks. Grr! I usually need 3, but I'm trying my best to get through it. I would hate to return it ALMOST finished!
DeleteSteam cleaning the carpet in on my today "To Do" list. I wonder if I will get it done! Have a wonderful Monday
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten to my carpet yet. How about you? LOL
DeleteI love the colours in your blanket and the shell pattern is really nice. (Your cat seems to agree!)
ReplyDeleteThanks! And yes she does! LOL
DeleteI love flannel sheets for the winter months, hubby loves cool cotton, we usually compromise and have cool cotton and I wear cosy flannelette jim jams :)
ReplyDeleteGreat blanket, love the colours :) I'm off to check out your blog links, I love finding new blogs x
Sounds like a great compromise! I love "jim jams". LOL What a great way to say it!
DeleteCats and crochet, lol... Very nice work on the afghan! The color scheme is so serene, but bright and happy at the same time.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of hook is that you have there? I've never seen one before, but it sure looks like a comfy grip!
It's a grip I purchased from Walmart for $7 something. It has rings to fit different size hooks which are places inside the grip. I've also seen them at Hobby Lobby. But I can't seem to find a link on-line at either place!
DeleteThanks so much, Jessy! With your info, I did some searching and found it here: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Boye-Needle-Ergonomic-Crochet-Handle/21633513
DeleteCan't wait to get one! Thanks again!
Yes! That's it! I really do find crocheting with it much easier on my hands! I hope you do too! And under $6!
DeleteWhat pretty colors in your shell-stitch blanket, Jesse. I hadn't noticed the hook until I read Jenny's post above. Is that really comfortable to work with? Does it take much getting used to? Mostly I don't have problems crocheting, but once in a while I do notice my fingers stiffening up.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Becki! It was made with discontinued Caron yarn from Walmart. I got most of the colors 50% ff! Super soft! And no, didn't take much getting used to at all - the hook holder. I've only been crocheting 2 years though, so perhaps I'm not as set in my crochet ways yet, but I don't think I would crochet long without it.
DeleteWhat a nice view of your lives, thanks for sharing. I love the afghan!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Thank you for sharing at my link up last week. New party is now open.
ReplyDeleteLove your blanket - beautiful color combinations. I am a big fan of crochet colorwork.
ReplyDeleteI love this link up! Your crocheted blanket is beautiful. I'll be featuring it at this month's Yarn Fanatic Party. Thank you for sharing! :-)
