Weekly Wrap-up: Week 3 - The One with Changes

EVERYDAY LIFE
It's been a long time since I have worked to earn money. I have stayed home with my kids for 10 years now, but divorce changes routines and needs. So, on Monday I babysat for 3 kids, covering for a friend who went out-of-town. I am hoping to find more babysitting jobs that fit into my crazy schedule as a single Mom juggling house, homeschooling and hobbies. Are there enough hours in the day? If you're a working Mom, what suggestions do you have for me?

I also tackled this, er, horrendous mess in Sam's bedroom. Why didn't he do it? If I clean it up alone he gets no say in what stays or goes. His choice, and he chose not to help. When it's all done, it will be a very sparse bedroom indeed because this Mama isn't going to go through hours of organizing again!

HOMESCHOOL HAPPENINGS
It's only the end of our 3rd week, but I've already made changes to our Language Arts. I dropped dictation with Cati. Instead, I will highlight misspelled words in her journal writing, then she will look these words up for correct spelling, writing them at the bottom of her entries. Since Sam is enjoying MobyMax, I have switched it to 3 days a week and Easy Peasy to 2. Both my learners need to read more, so everyone MUST have a book to read during car rides. (Fortunately, no one gets motion sick!)

  1. I have been taking on some work, as well. I am babysitting/preschooling a friend's 5 year old in the mornings while she works. She may be going to full-time so I will have her all day. Then my daughter's salon owner asked me if I would work at the reception desk a couple of afternoons a week. I told her I would have to bring my kiddos with me to do schoolwork in a spare room and she agreed that would be fine. So, now I have TWO jobs! I am not sure how this will all work out, but I have a wedding to pay for and need some extra cash for that.

  2. Yes, love conquers all. I think a lot of us are feeling the need to pick up some extra cash. I am glad you are finding ways to do that that also fits into your lifestyle. The maps are really cool.

  4. I am also looking for ways to make income. So far, I am selling our extra stuff on Ebay and Amazon. I like how I can do it during odd hours and not leave the house. I have made enough so far to pay for our school books and one tank of gas...

    1. Do you think we'd miss the mess when the kids move on and out for their adult lives? LOL

  8. I sell on ebay sometimes for extra cash. I used to even shop yard sales especially for items to resale, but that can be pretty time consuming. I always try to buy homeschool curriculum used, and often resell it when I'm done and use that money to buy the next thing we need for school. I also do some babysitting, I think that's a GREAT way to earn money while staying home with the kiddos, and my kids usually enjoy have different playmates. Good luck!!

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth! I do buy used as well as use a lot of on-line free resources. I have a bunch of curriculum I could get rid of...But babysitting might be the way to go!

  10. One of my sons makes piles like that and I understand completely why you think it's better to clean it up yourself! Have you thought of trying to make money online somehow? That's what I'm trying to start doing. Blogher pays for tweets and FB posts. You have to join and then apply for each campaign but it is starting to bring in a few extra dollars! Babysitting always used to drive me crazy!

    1. I have done a little bit on-line, but I do view it as "stable" as its been up-and-down. I want something schedule and consistent every week. But good suggestion and certainly something to continue or explore more.
