Wednesday Hodgepodge: Against the Tide

1. When did you last 'swim against the tide'? Explain.

Well, my new Christian faith. Unfortunately I have friends and family that aren't always understanding about my commitment to God. But perhaps MY walk will lead them on their own...

2. What's the last self-help or self-improvement book you read?

The ULTIMATE self-help and self-improvement book around: The Bible.

3. "Tolerance is a tremendous virtue, but the immediate neighbors of tolerance are apathy and weakness." (Sir James Goldsmith) 

Agree or disagree? Discuss. With civility please, because I think we have a good thing going in our very diverse (in geography, age, religion, political persuasion, ethnicity, marital status, upbringing, and cooking abilities) neighborhood here on This Side of the Pond.

That's just too much to think about today, Joyce. LOL

4. What is one of your most vivid memories of the kitchen from your childhood?

One of the first things I learned to cook was macaroni and cheese from a box. You know - with the powdered "cheese". And not Kraft, but the cheapest brand at the store. I never read the directions so my macaroni and cheese was SUPER dry...but I still LOVED the stuff. It wasn't until my friend's sister made us some at their house with butter and milk that I realized what I was doing wrong. After that, my macaroni and cheese was much better!

5. How did/do your own children's summers compare with your summers as a child? If you're not a parent, answer as it relates to what you've observed about the current generation of children vs. your own childhood.

In the summer, my Mom and Dad would take us on Sunday drives, usually to yard sales or go to a park for picnics. We would go to a beach to swim in the cold, salty Atlantic. We spent our days trekking through the woods, picking blueberries in August, and playing with friends. And of course there wasn't much TV watching and no video game playing. Now? We head to the lake (as I'm not near the ocean anymore) to swim, kayak and fish. There's no Sunday drives as gas is too pricey. And there's video game playing.

6. Tell us what body of water you would most like to be on or near today, and why?

A peaceful, relaxing spot with cool, clear water, the sounds of birds singing and of fish splashing...with the loving, comforting presence of my husband.

7.  Share a favorite song about water, or a favorite song with the word water in it's title, or a favorite song to listen to as you sit beside the water.

I couldn't really think of anything. Well, my first thought was "Row, Row Your Boat" because my husband serenaded me with that when we were out fishing last. We're goofy like that! So, instead, how about Redding?
