Journal of a SAHM

The Clock Reads...

Weather in My Neck of the Woods
Rainy. Overcast. Cool.

In the Garden
Dying bean plants were pulled. Both wax and green beans were replanted for a 2nd crop. Pie pumpkins, cucumbers and carrots growing well. Peas? :sigh:

Looking Around the House
Kids are sleeping. Cate's radio is playing too loudly from her bedroom. Fans whir. Dryer is drying.

Menu for this Week
Hmm. Food? Something with chicken tonight. Any suggestions?

What's on my TV Today
Does crochet how-to's on my laptop count? Or how to turn a minivan into a camper van? (Yes, I'm considering camping in my van! Not with kids, but just Tom and I. We'll bring the "mansion" (20x10 3 room tent) for family camping trips.)

What I'm Creating from the Craft Basket
Washcloths! Dad complained during his last visit that I didn't have any proper washcloths, so I've been crocheting up a variety of patterns and sizes in soft cotton yarn. I'm not sure what a "proper" washcloth is though...

Things that Make Me Happy and Thankful
Late afternoon fishing on a beautiful lake with my sweet husband.

I'm Wondering
With just over a month to go, what planning and purchasing do I still need to do to start our homeschool year. Summer is flying by!

Devotional
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)

  1. Once I started using crocheted dishcloths in the kitchen I have never gone back. I buy mine from the Amish store. They are awesome! Who would have thought?

    1. I have a few that I made a while ago for dishes, but I thought they would work for napkins too. They're soft cotton and washable. (I don't like to use paper towels or paper napkins too often as we go through them lickety-split!) We'll see how these work out. I'm a bit concerned with the changing colors and the ends staying tied...

  2. Hi Jessy! Thanks for linking up with my Sunday Salon. I haven't been back to check my link ups as i've been kind of busy... (trying to stay cool).
Just a camping trip for you and your husband! That sounds really nice. That is what we like to do in Octoberish... But we dont' ever get to go alone... Oh we will someday.
Love your lake picture. So nice and peaceful.
I am not working any harder on my garden. Once it is done, I'm done. There will be no fall crop this year. I'm tired of the fight after a bad start to the year.
Hope you have a great week! Yes, summer is going so fast. Our public school and my college student go back in two and half weeks!

    1. Well, we're going to have to see when we can arrange time alone to go camping together, alone. Not that we mind bringing the kids, but sometimes it's nice to do something as a couple. October would be awesome! Cool, but OK with the changing colors on the trees! I'm not doing much more in the garden this season. A rough start for us too. I almost didn't bother at all...

    1. Thanks! I really like that pattern. It was my 5th different washcloth pattern, but one of the easier one with a bigger washcloth. I actually want to use them for dinner napkins! LOL

  6. I like the colors you chose for the washcloth. Lookis great. I watched the video for the minivan/camper. That's very clever. What a grwat idea! The lake photo is beautiful and the lake is so calm that you got beautiful reflections. Such an inviting Daybook post.

    1. Thanks! I thought they would go well together. I do struggle a bit with what colors work together. I've been pinning color swatches on Pinterest for more ideas (i.e. blankets, hats, etc.). We are looking forward to trying out the van for camping in the future. We're simple people so it should work just right for us...and no hassle of putting up or taking down a camper. It'll be ready to go when we get to wherever!

  7. Camping in the minivan? Our twin size air mattress fits right in when I lay the back row down. That's roughing it as far as I'm concerned, and I must be near the washhouse or it's no-go for this momma. Hopped over from HHM.

    1. A full sized futon mattress fits right in my van! I've measured..and we have the mattress available! LOL And I have a camp closet that'll work for clothing, a cooler, a table top grill, a few small plastic boxes for this and that. I'm just working on bug netting and curtains for the windows. The Minivan Mansion! LOL But yeah, we'll need to camp near a bathroom with showers! ;)

  8. The lake is very pretty, looks like a great place to fish. I'm not sure about camping out of a minivan but then I prefer to camp "hotel" style ;) Hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. Camping isn't for everyone! I'm outdoorsy. Dirt, bugs...don't bother me too much. Van camping would be much more comfortable then a tent!
