Homemade Modeling Dough (like Play Dough
1 c all purpose white flour
1/2 c salt
2 T cream of tartar (found in spices)
1 T vegetable oil
1 c water
optional: food coloring for color, extracts or spices for smell
(We made green modeling dough with peppermint extract today, but you can do red and cinnamon, white and vanilla extract or any combination your child suggests or is comfortable with.)
Put all ingredients into a saucepan. Stir constantly on medium heat until the mixture forms a "ball" (about 3-5 minutes). Scoop out onto a cutting board and cool for 5 minutes. (Fill saucepan with water for easier clean-up later!) Knead dough for 5 minutes. Play! Store in a covered plastic container or plastic baggie.

ReplyDeleteHomemade playdoh looks like so much fun! I'm thinking that the next time our playdoh dries out I'll have to try making some. Does it stay soft long?
ReplyDeleteWe haven't made playdough for awhile. Today would be a good day, as we are stuck at home without a car.
ReplyDeleteI love using homemade dough. Somehow I don't mind it as much as store bought.

We made playdough for the first time in December and my girls really enjoyed it. It was nice not to have to use that stinky store bought kind. I need to make them some more.
