Journal of a Mom: November 2, 2015

THE CLOCK READS...
7:17am

WEATHER IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS
A mostly sunny 56 degrees. A perfect Maine fall day.

IN THE GARDEN
We had a roaring fire in the firepit yesterday, burning some downed tree limbs and pieces of board used for outside projects. Leaves are scattered everywhere, and wild plants have withered. The yard is looking more brown than green.

LOOKING AROUND THE HOUSE
It's serene. The washer is filling with water. The fridge is humming. The room is dim.

TO DO LIST
☐  Steam Clean the Carpet

TONIGHT'S DINNER MENU
Boston Baked Beans with Hot Dogs, Brown Bread and Cole Slaw

WHAT'S ON TV
I'll be catching up on the latest "The Amazing Race" episode on Hulu tonight. Do you watch?

CREATING FROM THE CRAFT BASKET
My son's shell stitch afghan is finished! I'm actually not sure how many weeks it took, but any afghan is a "labor of love". (Want to create your own afghan?  Here's the free pattern.) I've already started a new project, and if you're a Star Wars fan you're going to love it...

I'm sharing my crocheting creations over at Lucy Blossom Crafts (Mondays)Frontier Dreams (Tuesdays), The Philosopher's Wife (Tuesdays), Small Things (Wednesdays), Oombawka Design (Wednesdays), and Lunamon Design (Wednesdays).

I'M READING...

THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY AND THANKFUL
When it comes to chilly fall nights, soft, cozy flannel sheets are the best.

I'M WONDERING...
Is it time to trade in my van? or sell it privately? and buy another used vehicle...

    1. Thanks, Lucy! It's actually quite a heavy blanket! I was surprised when I finished it as the yarn feels light and airy. Must be the stitch!

  2. What lovely colours you have used on your afghan. Funny how cats always find the cosiest places.

    1. They do, don't they? She keeps coming around when I am crocheting to lie on whatever I'm doing (if it's big enough). It makes crocheting a bit difficult, but it's hard to disturb her when she's so comfy.

    1. I'm about half way through the book and it's great. Have you read it? I think it's new...I can only borrow it from the library for 2 weeks. Grr! I usually need 3, but I'm trying my best to get through it. I would hate to return it ALMOST finished!

  7. Cats and crochet, lol... Very nice work on the afghan! The color scheme is so serene, but bright and happy at the same time.

What kind of hook is that you have there? I've never seen one before, but it sure looks like a comfy grip!

    1. It's a grip I purchased from Walmart for $7 something. It has rings to fit different size hooks which are places inside the grip. I've also seen them at Hobby Lobby. But I can't seem to find a link on-line at either place!

    2. Thanks so much, Jessy! With your info, I did some searching and found it here: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Boye-Needle-Ergonomic-Crochet-Handle/21633513

Can't wait to get one! Thanks again!

    3. Yes! That's it! I really do find crocheting with it much easier on my hands! I hope you do too! And under $6!

  8. What pretty colors in your shell-stitch blanket, Jesse. I hadn't noticed the hook until I read Jenny's post above. Is that really comfortable to work with? Does it take much getting used to? Mostly I don't have problems crocheting, but once in a while I do notice my fingers stiffening up.

    1. Thanks, Becki! It was made with discontinued Caron yarn from Walmart. I got most of the colors 50% ff! Super soft! And no, didn't take much getting used to at all - the hook holder. I've only been crocheting 2 years though, so perhaps I'm not as set in my crochet ways yet, but I don't think I would crochet long without it.
