We're Island Bound: June 2 - 8

We're island bound today! We're heading up the Maine coast to visit my family for a little over a week. It seems like FOREVER since we've been there and we're anxious to spend some time with Grandpa and Nannie and cousin Noodle! And I'm hoping for a steamed lobster! LOL

But before I finish packing up the van and trek "downeast" with the Saplings, how was your week?

♩ ♬ ♪   So I just did some talkin' to the sun,

Our week was wet, wet, wet! Where did the sun go? Take a look at our yard! The shallow pond out back in the woods overflowed. Fortunately the house is on a small hill and there were no concerns with it becoming a "house boat". ((wink))

I Think They Were Hopeful for More Wet! LOL

Balsam Fir and I took a walk to the end of our road to see the flooding there. The pond through the woods is located next to the road too...with another pond on the other side. Both meet at a stream and flow off alongside the main road.

But lots of rain means lots of time for SUMMER STUDIES. LOL

Sugar Maple and Balsam Fir reviewed a math curriculum for TOS. Sugar Maple finished up Level B in Spelling Power and started Level C. (My goal is to get her through Level D by summer's end.) Balsam Fir continues to read aloud to me and work from his Hooked on Phonics worktext. And White Pine is getting closer to finishing up Saxon Algebra 1/2 and spends 20 minutes practicing his keyboarding skills. He's still quite "enjoying" Dance Mat Typing...with what he calls "the annoying sound" turned off. LOL

Reading was in FULL SWING this week! I finished all 1088 pages of Under the Dome by Stephen King. I know Stephen King isn't "everyone's cup of tea", but it was a great novel! (I wonder why it received so many negative ratings on Amazon...) I also find it kind of neat that I've driven by some of the places mentioned in the story!

The Saplings read these books:

Sugar Maple found a ladybug latch hook kit we've had for a while and learned to "hook". Is anyone else left-handed trying to teach a right-handed kiddo to latch hook, sew or cross-stitch? It gets a little complicated, but she figured it out her own way!

I ended up at the garage with the van. Again. ((sigh))

We made Blueberry Crumb Bars with the last of the wild Maine blueberries that we picked and froze. (I wish I had a photo, but they didn't last that long! LOL)

I thought I would share a peak into the coop when the hens and ducks are settling down for the night. They're quite entertaining! LOL

Well, we're off! I'll be back in 3 weeks to share our adventures on the island and our week of camping RIGHT after! Enjoy the last weeks of Spring!

  2. Another fantastic week. I love reading about your weeks too! First of all, a trip to Maine! How exciting. That is one place on our list we would love to go. That is A LOT of rain! We are supposed to get rain the next few days too.

You already know I love Stephen King and I loved "Under the Dome". I just think he is a brilliant writer. I have friends who can not stand him. ;)

I have been thinking about Saxon Algebra for Keilee. "SHE" wants to learn Algebra. Since we are unschooling and all. ::gulp::

Have a fantastic trip and take a lot of pictures!

  3. Oh, I'm envious of your trip! I'd LOVE to go to Maine, and especially to one of the islands! (But I'm not envious about the lobster; never have liked it!)

And the ducks and chickens are so pretty; my youngest SO wants some chickens someday!

  4. I love your pictures!! I remember summer rains when I lived in Ohio as a child. We used to go puddle stomping all the time. And your night time feathered friends are delightful! Have a wonderful trip.
