The Simple Woman's Daybook: May 4, 2015

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW
It's pitch black. Nary a star twinkles nor the moon shines due to cloud cover.

I AM THINKING
That I should probably be sleeping since it's 12:10am and 6:00am comes really early...

I AM THANKFUL
For a wonderful weekend with my spouse-to-be. For kids that are helpful. For health. For dreams.

I AM WEARING
Mismatched PJs, black stretchy pants and a blue Cape Cod t-shirt...with wool socks. (It's chilly here!)

I AM CREATING
A "rugged ripple" afghan for my oldest son in dark navy, bright red and snow white. My first ever afghan! It's going to take me spring AND summer to complete...

I AM GOING
Nowhere! At least right this second. Well, I do need to still brush my teeth...

I AM READING
My daughter recommended I read the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. I finished Divergent and am half way though Insurgent.

I AM LEARNING
To be patience and understanding when things don't go quite my way or how I imagine them. I'm "rolling with it".

IN MY GARDEN
We've turned the soil in our 12x6 raised bed veggie garden, but I haven't ordered our seeds yet. I use a local company, Pinetree, for non-GMO heirlooms.

IN MY KITCHEN
I finally found a great pie crust recipe. This weekend I made a homemade grilled chicken pot pie and a tart raspberry pie. I should have added more sugar to the raspberries...

QUOTE FOR THE DAY

A FAVORITE THING

FROM THE BOARD ROOM (PINTEREST)
A shameful plug: Sips, Sweets and Snacks.

P.S. (WEBSITE)
Nomads With a Van, a couple traveling around in a converted mini-van camper. Wouldn't this be a great way to camp (in campgrounds) for a couple?

  1. What a pretty kitty! I love making afghans, just hate how long they take to make! I started one for my hubby in January and I am still working on it. Everyone says how quickly the corner to corner stitch goes, but for me it takes forever, as I get bored easily when I don't see quick results. I have since finished lots of little projects while working on this afghan! Can't wait to see your finished project!! Have a great week!!

    1. Thanks for stopping in, Jodi! I taught myself to crochet starting in October, about 6 1/2 months ago, using You Tube videos. I've completed lots of hats, bags and various smaller projects, but wanted to tackle something bigger...and next? something more complicated - a lacy shawl!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Jill! I think I was able to comment on your blog, but I'm not sure. It wasn't letting me check the "I'm not a robot" box...Stripe, the cat, is one of a kind. She actually was missing for a month at the end of winter. She lives through below freezing temperatures, snow storms and a lynx hanging out in our back yard. She was being watched over for sure!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Anita! I think it's going to be a while before I finish up this afghan, but no hurry really. I plan on creating one for each of my kids, 5 in total, as the get older as a gift when they go out into the world as adults. Something warm and cozy from Mom!

    1. We Square Foot garden, Jerralea! It's super easy and very child-friendly...and for those of us who don't enjoy the hard work of a traditional garden.
