In My Life This Week
With the help of my oldest son - I needed MUSCLES! - I rearranged my bedroom, moving the bed to another wall. He dragged up the LONG bureau from the diningroom (emptied of school supplies) and placed it at the foot of the bed...and removed a tall, narrow bureau and a headboard. I'm liking it much better (even though the wallpaper needs removing and the walls painted). I have some BIG PLANS for changing things up around here, but I'll be doing a little at a time.
I suppose I'll soon have to get a "move on" and get our portfolios up-to-date and contact our assessor, and start REALLY thinking about next year. Have you started yet?

Homeschool Happenings
Same ol' same ol'! Just wrapping up those final loose ends before (a much needed) summer vacation. Jake continues to work on his civil war battle strategy paper and Biology. Since Sam is being a bit more - AHEM! - "challenging" with school lately, Cati decided to move on with SOTW without him. It's the final thing she has left and I can't blame her for wanting it done. And Sam? Well, I am hoping he'll finish up SOTW and 2 pages of Math NEXT WEEK. Or the week after?
Our Read Aloud
I'm not sure why read alouds flop around here. Perhaps it's our up-and-down schedule and finding a good time? or maybe what I'm choosing to read doesn't hold our attention? This week I decided to start The BFG by Roald Dahl. Wonder if we'll finish this one?

Our Favorite Thing
The Marsh Marigolds are blooming in and around the pond near the beginning of our road. They're bright, sunny flowers that are quite beautiful among the dark, deep greens of the pond. We watch for them every spring, along with the cacophony of the Spring Peepers who have been out for some time now.

Read alouds are something we have had to grow into. I didn't think we would ever be able to do it, but I can happily say that we love it now!
ReplyDeleteHave you read The Phantom Tollbooth? That was our favorite read-aloud. I think any Dahl book is a good read-aloud, too! You'll have to let us know how it goes!!
ReplyDeleteSend your strong son to my house :-)
Pretty pics! Love the changing around room idea! It's one way to change things up, make our mind see differently and does not cost a cent! Enjoy the weekend!
ReplyDeleteExactly! The room feels new, but really it's all the same stuff! LOL Well, except for what I removed!
Deletethe Marigolds are lovely! oh I love The BFG! hope your kids do as well :) have a great weekend~ tina
ReplyDeleteMy children absolutely adore The BFG! In fact, we've taken to calling our children "chidlers" because of that book. We get a lot of strange looks! Hope your children enjoy it, and have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteI too, was moving beds this week. Bunk beds...in my girls' room...
ReplyDeleteMy kids still like read alouds. Even my husband stops what he's doing to listen!
ReplyDeleteDecluttering sounds divine! I hate clutter, but my husband is a hoarder! Thanks for sharing at Friendship Friday!
We are avid readers but struggle with read alouds. Even The Phantom Tollbooth was a struggle for us. *sigh* I love your quote about decluttering. It makes such a HUGE difference to declutter. I need to get back on that!
ReplyDeleteI thought the decluttering graphic was SO true! I almost feel an obligation to find a way to use unused stuff! So, if I get rid of it I don't have to think about it...or find a place to keep it...or clean it as needed.
DeleteWe need help moving stuff too. I have a treadmill right now on the front porch that Keilee and I can't get into the house! Thankfully I have a big strong 17 year old nephew that helps. :) We love read alouds here. I have always read aloud to Keilee. But I am not consistent. :/ I just don't love reading aloud. I am tired of doing it after about 10 minutes! The flowers are gorgeous! Happy weekend Jessy! Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's it, Karen: *I* don't REALLY enjoy reading aloud most books! Some books are OK, like Winnie-the-Pooh, but others, like The Hobbit, are just too challenging to read aloud well. I like to do inflections and different voices! LOL
DeleteMy kids are pretty old (ages 20, 18, 16, and 14), but we still occasionally do a read aloud. We all enjoy it... even now. :)
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I were discussing how we are going to rearrange the homeschooling room if Margaret joins us next year. It looks like she is going to but that means we need another desk and rearranging what we do have so everything fits.
ReplyDeleteThe BFG is a Roald Dahl book that I'm not familiar with and I thought I had read them all as a kid. My daughter was reading some that she got for Christmas. I will have to add this to the buy list.
