In My Life This Week
Busyness! Just busyness...and lots of it!
Cookin' in the Kitchen!
St. Patrick's Day Green Velvet Cupcakes and Knock-off (but BETTER) Shamrock Shakes! Yes, I do know that it's not St. Patrick's Day yet, but inspiration hit us THIS WEEK. And if we wait like we did for Valentine's Day, well, that cake, frosting and jimmies are STILL in the cupboard. LOL

Oh, and you should check out my FunBites Cube It! Food Cutter review. The Saplings had LOADS of fun "cubing"!
Homeschool Happenings
You didn't think we would have St. Patrick's Day TREATS without some learning too, did you? LOL
I found a wonderful You Tube video about Ireland and it's music that we watched together. What do you think of Celtic music? Nice, huh? We especially like the upbeat songs.
While snuggling on the couch, the Saplings listened to me read aloud Patrick: Patron Saint of Ireland by Tomie dePaula and then we labeled a blank map of Ireland using on-line and book sources.
And for our Irish dinner, we created some Colcannon, a potato, ham and cabbage dish, and Irish Soda Bread with currants.

Streamin' with Netflix!
We're LOVIN' Netflix! There are OODLES of streaming educational shows. The Saplings haven't even mentioned cable TV! (But Dr. Who is STILL not growing on me!)
Excellent Extras!

Helpful Homeschool Hint
Sugar Maple and Balsam Fir started their Scholastic Easy to Make and Learn Projects: Human Body unit study. As a supplement, I let them play around with Anatomy Arcade, a website with body system videos and games. They've proclaimed it "cool" so it's our favorite resource this week! Check it out here.

I love your Ireland/St. Patrick ideas! I will look into that book. We really like reading DiPaola's books here. :-) I am also going to check out that website you recommended about the body systems. I think my kids would like something like that. Thanks for all of the resources! I will definitely post some of the results of my kids' Power Points next week. I thought it would be fun (and educational) to give them that option instead of just the traditional written boring report. lol. :-) Hope you have a great weekend!

Ok I make a dish with Cabbage Potatoes ad Keibasi - now I am hungry for it!!!!! Lots of BUTTER in that too! Wish my kids would share my love for cabbage... but so far Alyssa is the only one into sour kraut but that is all I got. I need a man to eat cabbage with! ha ha.
ReplyDeleteWe love Liberty Kids too.
My kids are netflix addicted to Billy the Exterminator. They often tell me facts learned on that during our animal studies.
Awesome on the homemade shamrock shakes!
oh and I have not checked out Dr. Who... going to let that one slide since both you and Stef don't like it. lol The kids have not noticed it yet. I often think I should cancel my cable since Netflix is what we watch but Wyatt really likes some of the prek shows on there... I just haven't. but I probably could and would be fine without it.
Deleteyum! thanks for sharing :) visiting from Pinterest Monday

ReplyDeleteI am hopping over to thank you for linking up to my Enchanted Thursdays Blog Hop! Our family LOVES the St. Patrick's Day milkshakes so thank you so much for sharing your version so I can give it a go :-)
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Dr. Who I am VERY bias! This is my all time favorite series. I realize that it may not be everyone's cup of tea but I highly suggest renting one of the seasons with David Tenant starring as the Doctor. David Tenant made the Doctor come alive. He is performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company in London. Just make sure to watch more than one episode before forming an opinion. It took me 3-4 episodes and then everything made sense and I am hooked for life! Also please note that this series has been around since the 1960's and each new Doctor continues on the storyline and is intertwined and connected. Fun fact it also started out as a radio show!
I love your learning and celebration surrounding St. Patrick's day. Very cool! :-)
