Journal of a SAHM: The End of Summer

The Clock Reads...

Weather in My Neck of the Woods
We're heading into another warm, sunny summer day.

In the Garden
The carrots have been harvested. The cucumbers are growing like weeds. The pumpkins are ripening. The peas and beans are dying. The season is wrapping up.

Looking Around the House
My daughter squeeled about a BIG wolf spider she found walking up the wall in the staircase. But the boys continue to slumber away.

Menu for this Week
Grilled cheeseburgers with sauteed onions (and bacon if I go shopping later). Spaghetti and meatballs in a chunky veggie sauce. 2 days is all I've got for you!

What's on my TV Today
Big Brother. I know, I know - Reality TV at its worst! But I'm hooked until Survivor, The Amazing Race and The Voice start again.

Weekly Wrap-up: Weeks 10-12 - Summer is Wrapping up!

Whoa! Is it really September less than 2 weeks? You know what that means, don't you? Our first day of homeschool is just around the corner! I've been planning the last couple of weeks, putting together 8 weeks worth of lessons plans. Are you ready? or have you already started the new year?

But in the meantime, we have summer to celebrate! And the temperatures are proving that summer isn't over yet!

We've been to the lake to cool off as the rain blew in. See to left of the picture? It poured at the other end of the lake! And then passed us right by without a single drop.

Tom and I have been exploring new lakes in search of Bass...and gorgeous sunsets.

Sam's been doodling and writing, a rarity for him. Isn't this kid awesome? His honesty. (And yes, his room is a mess.)

I finished up my first ever afghan for Jake. And planning on my next...

And the garden has turned into a jungle! But I don't have photos of that...

Creative Crochet: Rugged Ripples Afghan

I finally finished my son Jake's "rugged ripples" afghan!

(Want to make one of your own? Click here.)

I can't wait to start my step-daughter's blanket next. She's chosen a "sunburst" Granny Square pattern. Super excited to create a traditional Granny afghan! Now, to shop for yarn...

I'm sharing my crocheting creations over at Lucy Blossom Crafts (Mondays)Frontier Dreams (Tuesdays), The Philosopher's Wife (Tuesdays), Small Things (Wednesdays), Oombawka Design (Wednesdays)Lunamon Design (Wednesdays), and Natural Suburbia (Fridays).

Weather in My Neck of the Woods
Cool 56 degrees, overcast, but warming up to 76 degrees with mostly sunny skies. Perfection!

In the Garden
With fall just around the corner, the garden is finally flourishing. If only it had taken off about 6 weeks ago...I have 7-8 pie baby pie pumpkins growing. The carrots are getting bigger. If the season is long enough we should end up with LOADS of yellow-skinned cucumbers, and wax and green beans.

Looking Around the House
I see some "hot spots" that need cleaned up and put away. Everything has it's place, right? But the dishes are caught up! When does that happen? The 2nd load of laundry is already washing. I'm in good shape to be "lazy" today (after I weed the garden, mow the lawn, sweep and mop, vacuum, scrub toilets, gather all the trash, clean nesting boxes, dump and refill the duck's "pond", pay the bills...)

Menu for this Week
With the kids off visiting their grandparents, meals are simple, quick and mostly not all that nutritious: cereal and low fat milk, PB & J sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, and, er, chocolate cake with homemade chocolate whipped topping "frosting" and mini chocolate chips...

What's on my TV Today
Can you believe it? I watched all the episodes of the latest "Big Brother" on Hulu. Why? I have no idea! Background noise? Lack of judgement? It's Reality TV at its worse!

What I'm Creating from the Craft Basket
I finished my 1st afghan for my oldest son! :: doing the happy dance ::

Things that Make Me Happy and Thankful
My husband is into fishing. It's his thing. And I'm into boating and being on the water. Combine the two and we have a past time that we both love and enjoy. With sunsets on the lake like this, it's awe-inspiring!

I'm Wondering
Why are my seasonal allergies already kicking in? :: achoo ::

Homemaker Daybook: Journal of a SAHM

The Clock Reads...
5:50am

Weather in My Neck of the Woods
Light gray overcast skies. Cool and comfortable. For now. Forecasted 86 degrees for later. (That's a bit too warm for me.)

In the Garden
It looks lush and productive! Even the peas have bounced back from previous encounters as snack food for the hens! I've got itty-bitty green pie pumpkins, the cucumbers are getting ready to flower and the 2nd crop of wax and green beans are growing.

Looking Around the House
All is quiet. Even the fans aren't whirring as it's under 70 degrees inside.

Menu for this Week
Can I change this to menu for the DAY? I'm treating my wonderful husband to a special dinner for 2 tonight: Sweet BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Farm Fresh Corn on the Cob, his favorite Ramen Oriental Broccoli Salad, B & M Baked Beans, and Chocolate Poke Cake.

What's on my TV Today
Nada! But I may watch something on Hulu at some point. Anything engaging on TV right now?

What I'm Creating from the Craft Basket
I'm finishing up my son's navy blue, bright red and white "ripples" afghan. I have 12 more rows and it is complete. Finally! And I'm super excited that my daughter wants a traditional Granny Square blanket. I've been wanting to create one!

I'm Reading

Things that Make Me Happy and Thankful
A supportive, loving family. Great friends. Money for the basics. A house to live in. A vehicle that runs. Food on the table. Chocolate.

I'm Wondering
What decluttering and organizing project I'll get to today? Perhaps the annoying overcrowded pots and pans cupboard...

Devotional
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9)
