We very rarely go out to eat, so that saves us a ton of money on food costs. And we don't eat meat, so that also helps keep cost down. We eat a lot of beans, sweet potatoes, and squash, and can find those pretty cheap at the grocery store. I try to buy things in bulk when I can, too, to keep costs down. And we also have a Our Neck of the Woodshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00796487269192271170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8289903924787320738.post-61678048685325630762013-05-20T12:32:48.105-04:002013-05-20T12:32:48.105-04:00Definitely! We only have a few Mom and Pop stores, but one we do go too a bit. And there's a farm stand too, but it's 30-35 minutes away...and there's nothing that way to combine (such as the trash or additional shopping).
Jessyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06441870348048026971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8289903924787320738.post-45406275366561140852013-05-20T12:29:15.863-04:002013-05-20T12:29:15.863-04:00We're hoping to have some extras from the gard...We're hoping to have some extras from the garden this year for freezing and canning, especially pumpkin. (We love pumpkin breads, muffins and pies.) It can save on veggie costs AND it's exercise and relaxation (sometimes).

I also buy little prepared foods, but we do like our cereal. LOL It's more of a dessert for us though.
Jessyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06441870348048026971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8289903924787320738.post-42934282493112623932013-05-20T11:47:31.005-04:002013-05-20T11:47:31.005-04:00Shopping locally actually saves me money. I have seen my grocery bill decrease dramatically by shopping at our 'mom and pop' grocery store and Amish bulk foods store. I save gas money by not driving out of town and it keeps me out of Walmart which makes me always spend more than I intended!!Nicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08053965057224582328noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8289903924787320738.post-44756758914228114862013-05-20T09:34:50.401-04:002013-05-20T09:34:50.401-04:00I forgot to mention. However, the garden works to help eliminate costs. I also purchase a lot of my dried foods from Amazon.com because it's cheaper than the local store. I grind my own wheat, which isn't necessarily cheaper, but healthier. I think when a life of healthy food is chosen you have to decide whether or not the extra cost is worth it.
